Progressive Lens

For progressive lens, different areas of the lens are used for different viewing distances.

  1. Far vision area

  2. Intermediate area

  3. Near vision area

  4. Peripheral area

You will soon learn and adapt to the slight “swimming” effect at the peripheral area within a week.

Instructions

While looking through different areas of the lens, the center of each area on the lens will provide a better vision.

Looking at far distance

Use the far vision area which is located at the top part of the lens.

Looking at intermediate distance

Use the intermediate area at the center of the lens, when talking to people, doing window shopping, or looking at a computer screen.

Looking at near distance

Bring your chin forward in order to look into the near vision area.

Occupational Lens

Different areas of the lens will be used according to the distances.

  1. Near vision area

  2. Intermediate area

  3. Peripheral area

You will soon learn and adapt to the slight swimming effect at the peripheral area within a week.

Instructions

While looking through different parts of the lens, the center area at each part of the lens will provide a better vision.

Looking at near distance

When reading a book or newspaper, look through the near vision area.

Looking at far distance

Use the intermediate vision area on the top part of the lens, when talking to people, doing window shopping or looking at a computer screen.

Safety Precautions

  • It is dangerous to drive with high density color lens, especially in a dark tunnel and/or in the evening/at night.

  • While driving, do not wear bright lenses such as green, blue or red as it may cause difficulties to identify traffic light colors.

  • Please refrain from driving with lenses with a tint density of over 25% (light transmittance less than 75%) in the evening and/or at night.

  • Exposure to strong impact may cause damage to both glass and plastic lenses. Specific spectacles are purchased for use in sport, such as soccer, baseball, etc, as regular spectacle lenses do not generally provide the adequate protection required for these types of activities.

  • Please be aware when driving into tunnels wearing tinted or photochromic lenses since sudden dimness of light may cause visual difficulties.

Caution

  • Please refrain from looking directly at sunlight even with sunglasses as it may cause serious damage to the eye, leading to blindness.

  • Please refrain from wearing lenses with deep scratches and cracks as vision will be affected.

  • Never place convex (plus power) lenses under direct sunlight as fire may be caused.

  • Please do not wear Soltes Wide lens when using the stairs.

  • When driving or using the stairs, do not use reading glasses as they are meant for near vision purpose only.

  • When walking with progressive lenses, the perception of depth may be different especially when viewing with near vision area in the lens. Bring your chin down to view through the far vision area in the upper part of the lens.

  • For driving, please wear lenses that you have completely adapted to.

  • Do not leave your lenses in places where the temperature changes rapidly or when the temperature is over 60°C as it may alter the optical quality and/or cause cracks on the lenses.

  • When wiping the lenses, use a lens cloth. Do not wipe with too much pressure as it may scratch and damage the lenses.

  • When cleaning the lenses, use a mild detergent with water and wipe it immediately.

  • Please clean the lenses immediately if liquids such as detergent, cosmetics, oil, sweat, juices get onto the lenses. Stains may be difficult to remove and even damage the coating on the surface if not cleaned immediately.

  • Lenses should be replaced if scratches or cracks caused by impacts are present as they may allow the lens to be more prone to breakage.

  • Please refrain from placing the convex side of the lens down as the lenses can get scratched easily.

  • Check the condition of the glasses and prescription by an eye care practitioner on a yearly basis.

  • Leaving the lenses in a cleaning solution too long will damage the lenses and coatings.

Avoid the following:

  • Cleaning glasses with hot boiling water

  • Exposing lenses to heat from items such as hair-dryer, heater, charcoal fire, etc.

  • Wearing them in the sauna

  • Exposing lenses to harsh chemicals such as hairspray, lacquer, etc.

  • Leave lenses on the dashboard of the car where temperature can reach above 70°C
